Easy-to-grill Cabbage Recipe

This easy roasted cabbage recipe is delicious. When the cabbage is roasted in the oven, it browns, softens, and sweetens. Cabbage sounds boring, but it’s one of our favorite side dishes.

Baking is a great way to cook cabbage. We already love to stir-fry cabbage, make fried cabbage and turn it into pickles, but now we are obsessed with roasting it. If you have never roasted cabbage before, you need to start. When the cabbage is roasted in the oven, caramelize, soften and sweet. marvelous.

Our roasted cabbage recipe makes cabbage simple with oil, salt and pepper. However, you can always add spices, flavoring mixtures or fresh herbs.

Key Ingredients

  • cabbage: Cabbage is my favorite cabbage (or green), but other cabbage varieties do. A tender cabbage like Napa Cabbage may require less baking time, so check out how it goes.
  • Oil: I use avocado oil, the flavor of avocado oil is very neutral and works well at higher oven temperatures (such a recipe).
  • Salt and pepper: In our photos and videos, I use salt and pepper to make the cabbage simple and I have to tell you that this way is delicious! This is not to say you can’t add your favorite spice mixture. I love this Cajun seasoning.
  • lemon: Before serving, I squeezed it onto some fresh lemon juice. It adds fresh flavor and enhances everything slightly.

How to roast cabbage

You can roast cabbage in various shapes (such as steak or wedges), but we like to slice it. After grilling, the cabbage looks like a ribbon.

First, I removed the ragged or bruised outer leaves and cut the cabbage into quarters. This reveals the core, which is a little tough, so I cut it out. Finally, I cut the cabbage dorm into strips about 1/2 inch thick, which makes those pretty spaghetti ribbons in our photos.

What to eat with roasted cabbage

Roasted cabbage is a versatile side dish! I love steak, juicy pork chops, chicken breasts and marinated shrimp with ginger and garlic. It’s also great on other sides, such as roasted carrots, roasted potatoes (grilled at the same temperature), stir-fried green beans and a simple salad.

4 to 6 servings

You will need

1 medium cabbage, about 1½ lbs

2 tablespoons avocado oil

1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

direction

1Heat the oven 425°F (218°C). Prepare the baking tray (we bake directly on the baking tray, but to clean it easily, put down the silicone baking tray or a piece of parchment).

2Prepare by cutting the cabbage into four wedges and removing the core. Next, cut the wedge into strips about 1/2 inch thick.

3Add the cabbage to the baking sheet and toss it with oil, salt and pepper. Expand into one layer.

4Roast the cabbage without moving it until it starts to brown, about 15 minutes. When you notice browning, stir the cabbage, sprinkle it back into a uniform layer, and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes. We like dark brown cabbage, so we tend to keep the cabbage in the oven for longer.

5Mix well with lemon juice and serve.
